Philomath’s girls tennis team was dominant from start to finish, sweeping all eight matches without dropping a set in an 8-0 victory Thursday at Woodburn High School.

Senior Lucy King led the way at No. 1 singles, blanking Yuleni Rubio Lopez 6-0, 6-0. Junior Lucy Thomas was nearly as dominant at No. 2, defeating Nelly Tymko 6-0, 6-2. Junior Cecilia Milesi handled Dianel Bautista Jimenez 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and sophomore Ella Hammonds closed out the singles sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Azul Avila Cortes at No. 4.

Philomath’s doubles teams were equally commanding. Senior Lucie Oster and junior Clara Neville blanked Elena Estrada and Allison Granadas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Senior Maggie King and junior Lizzie Workman defeated Ameyalli Carlos and Alyssa Garibaldo 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Sophomores Bella Nuñez and Bethany Cannon handled Emilee Esparza and Vanessa Cortes 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and seniors Lacey Bacho and Logan Cook closed out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Betzy Trapala and Emily Sanchez at No. 4.

Philomath next heads to the Special District 2 Tournament, which opens Tuesday with early rounds at Molalla. The tournament moves Thursday and Friday to the Salem Swim and Tennis Club.
