Philomath High swept the three completed singles matches and added a doubles win Thursday on its home courts to defeat Woodburn 4-2 in boys tennis.
PHS freshman Cameron Barlow opened with a 6-2, 6-3 win over junior Jovanny Magallon at No. 1 singles. Senior Nate Houck was dominant at No. 2, beating sophomore Eleazar Zamora 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Andrew Sims rallied to defeat junior Jordan Servin 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3.
Woodburn took the No. 1 doubles match as juniors Eric Servin and senior Carlos Flores defeated senior Lane Schell and freshman Liam Cole 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Philomath sophomore Samuel Holroyd and freshman Lev Grose rallied from a first-set loss to defeat juniors Josue Garcia and Saul Bautista 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Woodburn junior Cesar Nava and senior Giovanni De Jesus defeated sophomore Mika Laukkanen Raskauskas and freshman Elijah Arthurs, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
Philomath now turns its attention to the Special District 2 Tournament, which opens Tuesday with early rounds at Estacada. The tournament then moves Thursday and Friday to the Salem Swim and Tennis Club to determine qualifiers for state.
