In a boys tennis dual dominated by Philomath, seven of the eight matches Thursday afternoon against Estacada ended in quick fashion with straight-set victories.

Philomath also won the match that went the full three sets for an 8-0 team win, but the battle at No. 2 doubles provided plenty of drama. Junior Gradin Fairbanks and freshman Lane Schell lost the first set to Estacada’s Joshua Pallesen and Cohen Schleich, 7-5, but evened up the match in the second set, 6-3. In the deciding set, Fairbanks and Schell pulled out the win by edging their opponents, 7-5.

The Warriors won all four singles matches with wins posted by Dawson Beckstead (6-0, 6-1), Andrew Leonard (6-2, 6-0), Jackson Rice (6-1, 6-1) and Owen Thomas (6-0, 6-2). In doubles, Philomath’s other three wins were by Teddy Benblow and Sawyer Ainsworth (6-2, 6-0), Osvaldo Garcia-Bazan and Jackson Holroyd (6-2, 6-2) and Nicholas Purcell and Johnny Pickett (6-1, 6-2).

Philomath moves to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in league play. The team is scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Friday at home against Stayton.
