Playing on its home floor Wednesday evening, No. 1 Cascade posted a straight-set boys volleyball victory over Philomath to remain unbeaten in Special District 3 play. The Cougars got the win 25-9, 25-21, 25-13.
Coach Helen Bennett said the team responded well after a lopsided first set.
“We rose to the challenge and played well,” she said. “There were some great rallies and it was fun to watch them battle.”
The two teams were tied, 20-20, in the second set before Cascade pulled away to go up 2-0 in the match.
PHS senior Chris Eaton had two solo blocks, two kills and two aces. Senior Mayson Wallace finished with four kills. Bennett said sophomore libero Nico Mayo Carrasco passed well.
“I did see great improvements in practice yesterday (Tuesday) by Jonah (Sailor) and Hunter (St. Clair), specifically in their hitting,” Bennett added. “If we can continue that in the next couple practices, then this Saturday’s tournament should be fun.”
Philomath will take a break from league play with an appearance in the Titan Tournament on Saturday at West Salem High. The Warriors will face North Salem at 8 a.m., David Douglas at 10 a.m., and Thurston at 1 p.m.
