The Benton County Sheriff’s Office’s 15th annual Back to School Supply Drive is in progress through Aug. 29.
For those interested in donating to the supply drive, backpacks have historically been a large need for students of low-income families returning to school. Monetary donations will also be accepted. For example, officials said just $30 can provide one student with supplies for an entire year.
Other supplies needed include: dry-erase markers, three-ring binders, wide-ruled paper, spiral notebooks, scissors, index cards, composition books, pens, pencils, pencil bags or boxes, colored pencils, hand sanitizer, tissue/Kleenex, erasers, highlighters, Crayola crayons, glue and glue sticks, rulers, folders, lunchboxes, coats or jackets, socks (new), kids underwear (new), backpacks (new or gently used).
Used supplies and books are not accepted.
Supplies gathered will be divided and distributed immediately following the event between five rural schools — Alsea Elementary, Blodgett Elementary, Kings Valley Charter School, Monroe Elementary and Muddy Creek Charter School.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the community in supporting our students as they prepare to return to school,” Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall said in a news release. “This fundraiser is crucial and presents a chance to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life. We encourage you to assist your sheriff’s office in making a contribution for our youngest residents.”
Cash or supplies may be dropped off or mailed to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Attn: The Sheriff’s Foundation, at 180 NW Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330. Contact Sgt. Ryan Roth with any questions at 541-766-6858.
