Registration is now open for Philomath Youth Activities Club’s annual Safety Town program, a weeklong safety education course for children entering kindergarten this fall.
The program runs Aug. 17-21 at Clemens Primary School with daily sessions from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The registration deadline is June 5.
The cost is $50 per child and includes a T-shirt. Scholarships are available and PYAC is also accepting tax-deductible sponsorship donations from families and community members who want to help cover the cost for other participants. Donations can be added to a child’s registration payment.
Under the guidance of a teacher, a law enforcement officer and teen instructors, children are introduced to a range of safety concepts through hands-on activities, songs, art projects, videos, presentations and a bus field trip. Participants practice being safe pedestrians and take turns driving pedal cars through a miniature town set up for the program.
Families are invited to a graduation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the close of the week. Children will be dismissed following the ceremony.
PYAC is also recruiting volunteers to help make the program possible. A SignUp Genius will be sent out seeking craft volunteers and check-in helpers for the first day. Volunteers assist with setup, instruction and cleanup in the craft area.
Registration forms can be mailed to PYAC at P.O. Box 1358, Philomath, OR 97370, or dropped off at the PYAC building at 421 S. 19th St. For questions, scholarship information or sponsorship details, contact Sarah Woosley at 541-929-4040 or sarah@pyac.net.
