Philomath Community Library will host its free Squishtivities session for young children and their caregivers from 11-11:45 a.m. Wednesday immediately following the library’s regular storytime.

The May 13 installment, titled “Rolling Ball Masterpiece,” will give children the chance to experiment with rolling objects of different sizes through paint to create their own artwork. Organizers say the activity is designed to build creativity and balancing skills.

Squishtivities is a recurring program brought to the library by Strengthening Rural Families and held on the second Wednesday of each month. The series uses arts, crafts and “messy” play to promote problem-solving, sensory and fine motor skills, creativity, and caregiver-child relationships. It is geared toward families with children ages 2 to 5.

The program is offered in partnership with the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library and the Parenting Success Network. Strengthening Rural Families, established in 2005, is marking its 20th year of service this year.
