An exhibition of quilts out of the notable private collection of Bill and Linda Volckening is now available for viewing at Philomath Museum.

The show, entitled “The Big Picture: American Quilts From The Volckening Collection,” will remain in place through Oct. 12.

“This exhibit is special because it includes highlights from our collection including quilts made in four different centuries,” the collectors said on their Facebook page. “It will include several quilts never displayed before in public.”

The Volckening Collection is a privately held collection of more than 400 quilts made between 1760 and present day. The Philomath show includes a quilt from the late 1700s.

Bill Volckening, who bought his first quilt in 1989, first showed his collection to a local quilt study group in 2009, according to an article on Quiltipedia.

“The quilt history enthusiasts gave him a new perspective on his collection,” the article reads. “It was something more. He made an effort to share the quilts from that point forward.”

In 2015, Quiltmania in France published a book, “New York Beauty: Quilts from the Volckening Collection.”
