The Philomath High School girls tennis team swept through all four of its singles matches but stumbled in doubles Monday in the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 Tournament at Estacada.
The team’s top two singles players, Bailey Bell and Adele Beckstead, easily advanced with 6-0, 6-0 victories. Megan Reese had a battle on her hands but pulled out a 7-5, 7-5 win. Elise Reese rolled over her opponent, 6-3, 6-0.
Daniella Carlisle and Nadia Durski, who have played at No. 1 doubles all season, lost in the first round to Cascade’s Kathryn Delamarter and Samantha Sandall, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Maggie King and Clara Neville also lost in three sets to their opponents, Kylie Henderson and Emily Blagoue of Junction City, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Lorelei Schell and Lucie Oster were challenged but won by a 6-4, 6-4 count over a pair from Molalla. Lucy King and Logan Cook were also winners with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 win over a Cascade duo.
In the consolation bracket, which features pro sets, Carlisle and Durski regrouped for an 8-0 win over an Estacada pair. King and Neville also stayed alive with an 8-3 win over their Molalla opponents.
The district tournament will continue Thursday and Friday at the Salem Swim and Tennis Club in Salem.
