The Philomath High School boys volleyball team stepped out of league play Wednesday and posted a pair of victories over opponents with winning records in a doubleheader at Creswell. The Warriors beat the host school in four sets and followed with a sweep over Cottage Grove.

Philomath came out of the gate slowly by dropping the first set against Creswell but made the necessary adjustments for a 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 victory. In the late match, the Warriors had to survive a marathon third set but got the win, 25-16, 25-15, 31-29.

Philomath (6-10) gets back into Special District 3 play at 6 p.m. Thursday with a trip over to Toledo. The Warriors will then prepare for next week’s league tournament.
