Philomath High senior Nick Stucki scored three goals in the first half and the Warriors posted their first victory of the season with a 5-0 shutout on the road over Sweet Home.

In the game’s fourth minute, senior Andrew Chatfield took a shot that bounced out and Stucki picked it up and slotted back post for the 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Stucki scored again after he was played through by sophomore Mateo Candanoza and found the net near the post.

Philomath took a 3-0 lead into the break on Stucki’s third goal. Sophomore Nixon Mooney slipped in a pass from midfield and Stucki scored on a breakaway.

In the second half, junior Dylan Bell scored on a direct free kick from 40 yards out for a 4-0 Philomath lead. Candanoza then scored with an assist to Mark Grimmer, lacing it just under the bar.

Senior Judah Bacho had the shutout at keeper.

Philomath has shut out out Sweet Home five straight times since the Huskies were places in the Oregon West Conference in 2018.

The Warriors (1-2) play next at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Sisters on Crescent Valley High’s field.
