Philomath High’s volleyball team drops to 0-2 with tough 5-set loss at Cascade

In a marathon match between two Oregon West Conference schools on Thursday, Cascade outlasted visiting Philomath 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 19-25 and 16-14.

“We had some pretty moments on offense but we missed 21 serves and I think that alone lost us the match,” PHS coach Denee Newton said. “Our serve receive was very shaky and until we remaster serve and serve receive, we will struggle.”

Junior Sage Kramer had 19 kills and sophomore Maddie Fields had 16 to lead the Warriors in hitting. Junior Reagan Larson had 36 set assists and on defense, junior Taylor Roe came up with 26 digs.

“I think the girls are ready to put in the work,” Newton said. “Passes will be a grind until they’ve got control of the passing and serving.”

Philomath (0-2) isn’t scheduled to play again until next Thursday with a trip to Sisters. The next day on Friday, March 26, the Warriors have a home match against Woodburn now on the slate.

Cascade improved to 2-3 on the season.

In junior varsity play, Philomath swept the Cougars, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-18 to go to 1-1 on the season.
