Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, MAY 15

• 10:29 a.m. — Police contacted two teenagers seen hiding under blankets in Philomath City Park. The officer asked the students to return to school and attempted to contact guardians.

• 1:11 p.m. — Police performed a welfare check on a male in the 1400 block of Main Street who had taken mushrooms and was experiencing paranoia.

• 5:01 p.m. — Police responded to a motorcycle crash at Main Street and North 16th Street. No injuries were reported, however, medics did treat one individual at the scene.

• 10:23 p.m. — Police responded to a report of fraud in the 400 block of South 28th Street involving an unauthorized credit card charge.

Other calls: PPD reported two traffic stops.

SATURDAY, MAY 16

• 3:38 p.m. — Police responded to a report of fraud in the 1900 block of Lowther Place involving a woman who was scammed out of $2,000 from an individual who claimed to be with the sheriff’s office and demanded money for a missed court date or she would face jail time.

Other calls: PPD reported five traffic stops.

SUNDAY, MAY 17

• 6:28 a.m. — Police responded to a reported theft in the 3000 block of Main Street. An investigation revealed that no theft had occurred and an individual was trespassed from the property.

• 3:13 p.m. — Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a business in the 1700 block of Main Street. The suspect was captured on video.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen assistance at 2:09 p.m. (Marys River Park and Natural Area) and a noise disturbance at 4:49 p.m. (North 13th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 5:37 a.m. (Highway 20). PPD reported eight traffic stops.

MONDAY, MAY 18

• 7:17 p.m. — A male was placed on a police officer hold in a mental health-related situation.

• 9:01 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a vehicle that damaged a mailbox in the 200 block of North 19th Street.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen assistance at 11:28 a.m. (Deer Creek Way), welfare check at 7:22 p.m. (Applegate Street and South 30th Street) and citizen assistance at 10:32 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police assisted another agency at 2:56 a.m. (Highway 20/34). PPD reported two traffic stops.

TUESDAY, MAY 19

• 2:06 p.m. — Police arrested Hector Moises Nunez, 43, of Philomath, in the 1800 block of College Street on a felony charge of first-degree criminal mischief involving allegations of an unlawful intent to damage a city of Philomath water meter. Nunez was transported to Benton County Jail.

Other calls: Police responses included a non-911 issue at 1:40 p.m. (College Street) and a welfare check at 7:15 p.m. (North 19th Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 2:11 a.m. (Iris Circle). PPD reported three traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 20

• 10:02 a.m. — Police responded to a complaint about a vehicle parked in a designated handicap location in front of Dirt Road Brewing at North 13th Street and Main Street. Police learned that the vehicle was holding a spot for a concrete truck that was to arrive for a pour on new construction. The operation made the parking space unavailable for a short period of time.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 12:04 a.m. (Main Street), barking dog at 2:10 a.m. (North 12th Street), report of criminal mischief at 10:25 a.m. (North 20th Street), juvenile complaint at 11:17 a.m. (Applegate Street) and a parking complaint at 7:27 p.m. (Main Street and North 12th Street).

THURSDAY, MAY 21

• 10:56 a.m. — Police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash in the 3000 block of Main Street. According to police, the pedestrian walked in front of a dump truck and according to Philomath Fire and Rescue was still lying in the road upon arrival by medics. The individual was transported to the hospital by a Corvallis Fire Department ambulance.

Other calls: Police responses included extra patrols at 12:22 a.m. (North 14th Street), extra patrol at 5:20 a.m. (Main Street), sidewalk complaint at 8:19 a.m. (Cedar Street) and a report of a suspicious person at 7:12 p.m. (Chapel Drive). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 11:01 p.m. (Highway 20 and Shrike Way). PPD reported no traffic stops.
