Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 26

• 1:31 p.m. — Police responded to a report of attempted fraud involving a woman who had received a call from someone asking to send money for an accident that her grandson had been involved in.

• 9:36 p.m. — Police arrested Cassandra Renae Borden, 29, of Philomath, on a felony charge of strangulation and Jared Michael Matherne, 29, of Philomath, who was booked on felony charges of fourth-degree assault and third-degree robbery, and a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal mischief, following an incident at a Philomath residence. 

Other calls: Police responses included extra patrol at 5:22 a.m. (Main Street and North 14th Street), parking complaint at 2:47 p.m. (College Street) and a barking dog at 8:11 p.m. (Monroe Street. PPD reported four traffic stops.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 27

• 11:48 a.m. — Police responded to a report of shoplifting from Dollar General. The loss was estimated at $22. A 46-year-old Corvallis man was later arrested on two misdemeanor counts of third-degree theft/shoplifting.

• 1:53 p.m. — Police responded to a report of theft in the 400 block of South 18th Street involving food valued at $300 that went missing from an apartment complex’s common area.

Other calls: Police responses included trespassing at 7:31 a.m. (South 19th Street), citizen contact at 7:55 a.m. (South 19th Street), suspicious circumstance at 11:26 a.m. (Applegate Street), motorist assistance at 12:57 p.m. (North Eighth Street) and a city ordinance violation at 9:20 p.m. (Philomath City Park). PPD reported seven traffic stops.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 28

• 5:37 a.m. — Police assisted at the scene of a wildfire in an area near Highway 34 and Decker Road. See separate story and followup information in the Philomath Fire and Rescue log.

• 3:44 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a man making unwanted requests for sex from a woman at a location on Main Street. There was no report of an arrest.

• 4:53 p.m. — Police responded to an incident at Chevron involving the driver of a large van that hit a metal post that protects fuel pumps while attempting to turn around. The van’s accessory ladder was damaged and paint on the metal post had been scraped off. 

Other calls: Police responses included the delivery of an emergency message at 4:04 a.m. (Fern Road) and citizen contact at 11:04 a.m. (Main Street). PPD reported eight traffic stops.

MONDAY, SEPT. 29

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a dog complaint at 11:07 a.m. (College Street and North 15th Street), citizen assistance at 3:41 p.m. (Applegate Street), non-911 issue at 5:30 p.m. (no address reported) and a noise disturbance at 10:21 p.m. (Pioneer Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 30

• 4:36 p.m. — Police responded to a report of reckless driving involving a vehicle at the Philomath school bus pick-up area in the 500 block of South 19th Street. Police were able to identify the driver and counseled him at his home in Corvallis. No charges were filed.

Other calls: Police responses included a 911 hang-up call at 4:35 a.m. (North 19th Street), citizen contact at 2:11 p.m. (Philomath City Park), welfare check at 2:51 p.m. (North 12th Street) and a traffic hazard at 2:59 p.m. (North 11th Street and Pippa Lane). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 7:34 p.m. (Highway 34 and Joseph Lane) and 7:47 p.m. (Southwest 53rd Street and Southwest Reservoir Avenue, Corvallis). PPD reported two traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 1

• 2:10 p.m. — Police arrested a 42-year-old Philomath man on a warrant for failure to appear on a criminal citation at College Street and North 19th Street.

• 6:33 p.m. — Police arrested a 47-year-old Corvallis woman on a parole board warrant at North 13th Street and College Street.

Other calls: Police responses included a repossessed vehicle at 12:09 a.m. (North 19th Street) and a welfare check at 3:51 p.m. (South 19th Street and Applegate Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 4:26 p.m. (Highway 20/34). PPD reported six traffic stops.

THURSDAY, OCT. 2

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included motorist assistance at 1:03 p.m. (James Street) and a report of a suspicious person at 8:08 p.m. (Chapel Drive). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 10:33 a.m. (Woods Creek Road). PPD reported three traffic stops.
