A wildfire broke out early Sunday morning in a timber harvest area west of Philomath, the Oregon Department of Forestry’s West Oregon District reported. At last report, the fire had burned approximately 4.7 acres.
ODF, landowners and firefighters from Philomath, Monroe, Alsea and Corvallis responded at 5:15 a.m. to Evergreen Ridge in a pile harvest unit on private timberland.
Emergency responders deployed overhead personnel and fire engines. Heavy equipment and hand crews were also dispatched to the area.
Officials reported that no structures were currently threatened by the blaze and no evacuations had been ordered. No information about containment status has been released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Philomath Fire and Rescue also responded to a wildfire in northeast Corvallis at around 3 p.m. Saturday. Multiple agencies were part of the operation, which was in the area of Northeast Granger Avenue and Northeast Pettibone Drive and led to evacuations in the vicinity. The Corvallis Fire Department reported that it had been contained by 4:15 p.m. The only structure lost was a small outbuilding.
