Philomath residents can help fight hunger in the community by participating in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday.
Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the annual event is the largest single-day food drive in the country.
To participate, residents are asked to leave a bag of nonperishable food items next to their mailbox before regular mail delivery. Letter carriers will collect the donations during their routes, and all food stays local, benefitting Philomath Community Gleaners and Nancy’s Food Pantry, programs that are a part of Philomath Community Services.
Local residents Teresa Nielson and Diane Crocker are helping the local effort to assist the letter carriers, if needed, and to organize sorting, boxing and weighing all donations Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and running into the early evening at PCS.
Now in its 32nd year, the Stamp Out Hunger drive helps restock food supplies heading into the summer months, when demand often increases.
