The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is investigating three incidents that have occurred in neighboring Lincoln County, the agency reported this week.
Troopers out of the agency’s Newport patrol office responded Nov. 20 to a report of a cow elk that was found shot and killed in a clearing near Rudder Creek Road in Lincoln County. The cow elk was killed with a high-caliber rifle and left to waste.
On the day day, a fish and wildlife sergeant out of Newport responded to a report of two spike bull elk that had been shot and killed in the Murphy Road area in the northeast section of Lincoln County. The first was in a clear-cut area at the edge of the timberline and second was found approximately 50 yards away just inside the timberline near Murphy Road’s milepost 10.
The two spike bulls are believed to have been killed on opening day, which was Nov. 18, and left to waste.
OSP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for killing and wasting the cow elk and the two spike bull elk. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Oregon State Police Dispatch at 1-800-452-7888, *OSP (*677), or email TIP@osp.oregon.gov.
The reference case numbers are SP23-368216 for the cow elk and SP23-368133 for the spike bull elk.
