A celebration to induct a scenic botanical area on Marys Peak into the Old-Growth Forest Network is planned for Monday, Sept. 16, organizers announced.

The event begins at 10 a.m. in the Marys Peak summit parking lot with a brief ceremony. Attendees will then travel to the nearby Marys Peak Campground parking area to hike the Meadowedge Trail. Attendees will have the option to hike the Summit Loop.

Organizers ask those planning to participate to register online. Attendance will be capped at 25.

The Old-Growth Forest Network’s mission is to protect old-growth, native forests. The Marys Peak trees were nominated for inclusion in the national network by Philomath resident Giana Bernardini.
