Back-to-back one-out singles by Camaron Kvidt and Nic Challe in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Philomath High’s summer baseball team to a 10-9 victory over Junction City Sunday afternoon in the third-place game of the Les and Bob’s Tournament.
Philomath led 5-0 after the second inning but Junction City scored twice in the third and four times in the fifth to set up a wild finish to the game. Rocco De La Rosa highlighted the home team’s outburst in the second with an inside-the-park home run to left field.

Later while down by one run, Les and Bob’s tied the game on a Wylie Griffith single that drove in Jacob Hernandez. Then after Griffith stole second, he scored on a Colvin Henley double to right field to put Philomath back on top.
With the game tied 7-7 in the sixth, Philomath again took the lead on a De La Rosa one-run single to center field. But Junction City regained the lead in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Griffith opened the inning with a walk. Two batters later and after Griffith moved up on the base paths, Kvidt singled him home on a line drive to left to tie the game, 9-9. Rustan Woosley trotted out as a courtesy runner for Kvidt and after stealing second, scored the winning run on a walk-off single to center by Challe.
Griffith and De La Rosa both saw time on the mound for Les and Bob’s. At the plate, De La Rosa finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Challe was 2 for 4 and also drove in three.
Philomath is scheduled to play Tuesday at home vs. Sheldon.
