FRIDAY, AUG. 9
• 6:25 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a report of a small grass fire in a ditch between two houses in the 800 block of North 12th Street. No injuries or property damage were reported. The investigation determined that the fire was possibly ignited by an electrical spark issue from a nearby power pole. Fire and Rescue sent an engine company of three personnel, a brush truck with two personnel and a duty officer.
• 11:05 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 31600 block of Fern Road. An unoccupied rental property was heavily damaged. No injuries were reported. For a full report, see separate story.

SATURDAY, AUG. 10
• 1:31 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a report of a large wildland fire on Stow Pit Road near Monroe. Fire and Rescue’s response was canceled en route.
• 6:55 p.m. — Emergency medical services provided mutual aid on a call on Marys Peak Road.

SUNDAY, AUG. 11
• 12:23 a.m. — Firefighters provided mutual aid on a call in the 100 block of Southwest 53rd Street in Corvallis.
• 9 a.m. — Firefighters sent a crew as part of a Benton County task force to the Dixon Fire in Douglas County. Personnel sent included Fire Chief Chancy Ferguson and a heavy brush truck with a crew of three. For a full report, see separate story.
MONDAY, AUG. 12
• 5:06 p.m. — A smoke investigation at a location on Decker Road and Bellfountain Road led firefighters to the discovery of a combine on fire in an adjacent field. Upon arrival, the combine’s operator had exited and knocked down flames with portable extinguishers. A smoldering fire was confined to straw and dust in the rear discharge of the combine with no extension to grass stubble of the field. Fire and Rescue sent a brush truck with three personnel who extinguished the smoldering material and cooled the machinery, then wetted down the straw and dust after removing it from the combine to the soil. The Oregon Department of Forestry also responded to support the incident. Fire and Rescue also had a duty officer on site. The combine’s operator was reportedly not injured. The property’s owners reported no loss.

TUESDAY, AUG. 13
• 8:36 p.m. — Emergency medical services responded to a crash involving a vehicle hitting a bear on Highway 20 about 2 miles east of Blodgett. The vehicle had significant front-end damage and airbags were deployed. The driver, a 63-year-old Newport man, was transported with minor injuries to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis for evaluation. Fire and Rescue’s response included an engine with four personnel and a duty officer.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14
• 2:06 p.m. — A Fire and Rescue duty officer was dispatched to serve as standby personnel in Corvallis but was then called to the scene of a multi-story residential structure fire in the 2600 block of Northwest Arnold Way. Fire and Rescue sent an engine crew of three, which was assigned as backup and later released to serve as standby at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

THURSDAY, AUG. 15
• 9:17 a.m. — Firefighters provided mutual aid at the Benton County Fairgrounds.
• 12:43 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire with an engine crew of three and a duty officer in the 3100 block of Main Street. A self-cleaning office caught fire and was put out by an occupant of the apartment. For a full report, see separate story.
• 3:36 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a one-acre field fire off Ervin Road that involved a single-wide mobile home as well as several vehicles and a mobile trailer — all abandoned. A property owner was injured while trying to remove a tractor from the burning field. Fire and Rescue’s response included a structure engine, brush truck and water tender.
