The Benton County Sheriff’s Office will implement beginning Monday an online process to apply for or renew a concealed handgun license, the agency announced.
The process will be offered through a third-party vendor, “Permitium.”
“I’m excited for the implementation of this new online application system, which should make the process easier and more accessible for our citizens, especially those in our rural communities,” Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall said through a news release.
Applicants will now have the ability to access the BCSO website and select the link for applying for a new or renewal of a current CHL. Online applicants can pay online for the application, to include processing and service fees. Applicants for a new CHL will also be able to schedule the required fingerprint appointment.
In the news release, BCSO said the new process will create a more interactive experience that will allow the applicant to view the status of their application, as well as be notified upon approval or denial.
“The applicant will be able to electronically upload any documents needed for the application process,” according to the release. “Once an application is approved, a new license will be provided. The online process will allow citizens greater flexibility to apply and submit their application any time of day, even during nonbusiness hours of the Sheriff’s Office.”
Applicants without internet access and applications received prior to Aug. 9 will continue to be processed using BCSO’s current system.
For more information, BCSO has additional details online. Questions can be directed to CHL@bentoncountyor.gov or by calling 541-766-6606.
