The Philomath High School volleyball team improved to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Oregon West Conference on Tuesday night with a straight-set victory at North Marion.

The Warriors rolled to a 25-12, 25-14 and 25-13 win behind a strong showing in all areas of the game.

First-year coach Autumn Hilberg said junior Ahnika Tryon came up big with an exceptional 2.2 serve-receive ratio.

“It’s really nice to have someone back there consistently passing next to Kori (Galvan),” Hilberg said. “A lot of teams avoid Kori, so this will make it harder for them to target other players. Ahnika and Kori split the court most of the time.”

Galvan had a team-high 25 digs in the win. Other statistical leaders included senior Abigail Brown’s 16 kills, sophomore Ashleigh Brown’s nine aces and 36 assists and junior Madison Juhl’s four blocks.

The statistic of the night, however, would be Philomath limiting North Marion (2-4 overall, 1-2 Oregon West) to just 11 kills in the match.

The Warriors are scheduled to hit the road again on Thursday for a trip to Sweet Home (6-3, 2-1). The Huskies defeated Newport on Tuesday in three sets.
