Philomath High’s boys volleyball team cruised to a straight-set victory Thursday on its home floor over Junction City in a nonleague matchup.

The Warriors (8-3) bounced back a loss two days earlier against Newport to beat the Tigers (3-7), 25-17, 25-14 and 25-22.

“The boys really worked hard in playing together and it was great to see them competing and having fun,” PHS coach Helen Bennett said.

Senior Carson Winder had 10 kills and four blocks and junior Chris Eaton added six kills. As a team, PHS served 10 aces.

“Our serving and passing improved drastically from Tuesday, making it easier for us to win points both offensively and defensively,” Bennett said.

Philomath is scheduled to participate Saturday in a tournament at West Salem. The next home matches will be Tuesday with a league tripleheader on the schedule — Marshfield at 3:30 p.m., North Bend at 5 p.m., and Newport at 7 p.m.
