The Philomath High School volleyball team improved to 2-1 in Oregon West Conference play on Tuesday evening with a straight-set victory on the road over Woodburn. The Warriors got the win, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-17.
The Warriors (2-2 overall) will next play on Thursday with a home match against Marist Catholic. The Spartans, out of Eugene, come into the match with a 2-2 record — one of those losses coming to Cascade in straight sets, an opponent that Philomath defeated last week.
The Warriors dominated Tuesday’s match against Woodburn, a team that remains winless on the season. The team had fairly even distribution when it came to kills with senior Sage Kramer leading with nine. Senior Ashlynn Barron had seven kills and both junior Abigail Brown and sophomore Clara Stanley had six.
Senior setter Reagan Larson had 29 assists. The team’s other primary setter, senior Laura Noble, missed the match with a shoulder injury.
At the service line, Larson and Brown and six and five aces, respectively. On defense, libero Taylor Roe had 10 digs while Brown and Stanley each had seven and Kramer had six.
“We are getting closer to the right lineup and plan to work out a lot on Saturday in Sisters,” PHS coach Denee Newton said.
Following the Marist Catholic match on Thursday, the Warriors will participate in the Sisters Tournament on Saturday, an event that begins at 8 a.m., runs all day and features a large contingent of schools, among them Cascade, Stayton and Sweet Home in addition to the host school out of the Oregon West.
