In a tight girls soccer match against Seaside on Saturday afternoon at the Oregon High School Soccer Showcase in Bend, Philomath rallied for two goals in the second half to post a 2-1 victory.
The Warriors (2-0) scored the game-winning goal on a shot by sophomore Kya Bolton in the 79th minute. Senior teammate Ana Candanoza had the assist on the play.
“We had to settle down and play together,” PHS coach Mat Phelps said. “We controlled the whole second half and played much better.”
Seaside (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a goal by sophomore Stephanie Anguiano and the Seagulls maintained that advantage through halftime. In the second half, Philomath finally broke through on offense when junior Jordyn Hood finished with an assist by Bolton in the 57th minute.
The two teams battled the rest of the way with PHS able to celebrate with the late goal by Bolton — her fifth in just two games this season.
