The Philomath High School volleyball team worked through a slow start to take down Stayton on the road Tuesday evening, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21.
“It was a really good all-around performance by us,” PHS coach Autumn Hilberg said. “Everyone played well and stepped up when needed.”
The Warriors finish the first run through the Oregon West Conference alone in second place with a 4-1 record. Philomath will face first-place Cascade on the road at 6 p.m. Thursday in a match with league title implications.
Hilberg mentioned serving, defense, hitting and setting in her post-match analysis.
“Kynlee (Albin) and Hannah (Bennett) had a great night at the service line with several points each time they served,” Hilberg said. “Avery (Smith) was a huge presence with her positivity and defense. Clara (Stanley) had her best hitting night yet. Ashleigh (Brown) put up consistent sets.”
Albin had three ace serves, Stanley finished with a team-high 18 kills and Brown recorded 29 of the team’s 36 assists. Libero Madison Provance had a team-best 24 digs and Madison Juhl was in on four of the team’s eight blocks.
The Warriors go to 8-6 overall and are currently sitting at No. 11 in the OSAA rankings. Stayton falls to 6-7 and ranked right behind Philomath at No. 12.
