The Independent Community Club invites the public to enjoy free chili and cornbread beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday at the organization’s historic schoolhouse location on the corner of Fern Road and Airport Avenue.

Now in its ninth year, the event follows the ICC’s annual board meeting, which is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start. All members and prospective members are invited to sit in on the meeting, which will include a report on the state of the organization and board election.

For those interested in an annual membership, the cost is $50 for an individual or $75 for a family.

ICC board members will be competing in various categories (best chili, best vegetarian chili, best green chili, best beef chili, etc.) at the chili feed that follows. Organizers said that for those planning to attend, they should bring their own beverage and although not required, can also bring a side dish, if desired.
