The Philomath High School volleyball team won its second straight match to open conference play with a three-set sweep on the road over Stayton.
The Warriors improved to 6-3 overall following the 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 victory.
“We did a great job tonight of putting away more free balls for points, winning longer rallies and playing defense,” PHS coach Whitney Thomas said.
Warriors senior setter Avery Smith had an exceptional performance with 29 assists.
“Avery is working so hard every game and in practice, and it’s paying off for everyone around her,” Thomas said.
The team had a good night at the service line. Junior Nora Stanley had three aces and Smith had two. In the hitting department, Stanley finished with a team-high 12 kills and senior Shaylee May had 10.
Philomath will compete in a tournament for the second straight weekend as the Warriors head down to Junction City on Saturday.
