In Monday’s blog, I reviewed Philomath High sports from January and today, I’ll take a look at February.

• Feb. 1: Philomath wrestlers wrapped up the two-day Cottage Grove Invitational. Blake Niemann won his weight class for an individual title while Blaise Pindell and Connar Kohn had runner-up finishes. Reynece Ryan was runner-up in the girls tournament.

• Feb. 4: Philomath’s boys went to 15-3 overall with a 45-40 win at home over Stayton. Michael Lundy had a game-high 18.

• Feb. 4: The PHS girls went to 18-0 with a come-from-behind 43-41 win over Stayton. Emma Pankalla had 13 while Mia Rust and Sage Kramer each had 12.

• Feb. 5: The wrestling team defeated Elmira and lost to Central Linn in a home double dual.

• Feb. 6: In the Oregon West Duals at Newport, Warriors wrestlers beat Stayton and Newport but lost to Sweet Home and Cascade.

• Feb. 7: The Warrior boys dropped a 51-42 game on the road at Sweet Home. Lundy had 17 and Ty Lundy had 14 in the loss.

• Feb. 7: Philomath’s girls rolled over Sweet Home, 57-25. Kramer had 21 and Rust scored 20 in the team’s 19th victory without a loss.

• Feb. 8: Reynece Ryan placed third at 190 pounds with a pin over a McNary wrestler in the OSAA Girls South Regional in Springfield to qualify for the state tournament.

• Feb. 11: Philomath’s boys built a good first-half lead and beat Cascade, 52-42. May had 19 and Lundy 17.

• Feb. 11: The PHS girls defeated Cascade, 49-36, to go to 20-0. Kramer scored 27.

• Feb. 13: Philomath’s wrestlers lost a dual 45-24 against Siuslaw. 

• Feb. 14: The Warriors went to 17-4 with a 40-18 rout over Sisters. Philomath put on a display of balanced scoring with no players hitting for double figures.

• Feb. 14: Philomath overpowered Sweet Home in girls basketball with a 72-10 win. Kramer scored 36.

• Feb. 15: In the district swim meet at Albany, Philomath qualified Eli McLennan (100 backstroke), Maggie Ross (50 freestyle), Melia Morton (100 breaststroke), boys’ 200 medley relay (McLennan, Caleb Matthews, Carrson Hirte, Brennan Provance) and the girls’ 400 freestyle relay (Morton, Hannah Hernandez, Audrey Davis, Ross).

• Feb. 21: Philomath rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Newport, 38-34. Lundy scored 14 and May had 11.

• Feb. 21: The Warrior girls downed Newport, 67-32. Kramer scored 37.

• Feb. 21-22: PHS competed in the state swim meet. The top finish was turned in by Melia Morton in the 100 breaststroke with seventh.

• Feb. 21-22: Competing in Stayton at districts, Philomath’s wrestling team qualified eight for state with Issiah Blackburn, Joseph Choi, Caleb Blackburn, Connar Kohn, Blake Niemann, Ben Hernandez, David Griffith and Blaise Pindell.

• Feb. 25: Philomath finished 10-2 in the conference with a 40-36 win over Woodburn. The Warriors won the Oregon West title and ended up 19-4 overall. Lundy had 14 in the win.

• Feb. 25: The PHS girls finished 12-0 to win the Oregon West with an 83-58 win over Woodburn. Kramer had 44 in the win.

• Feb. 28-29: Issiah Blackburn placed third and both Blaise Pindell and Connar Kohn brought home fourth-place medals from the state wrestling tournament. Blackburn had to wrestle Kohn in the third-place match at 195.

• Feb. 29: In a game scheduled as a tune-up for the playoffs, Woodburn handed Philomath’s girls their only loss of the season, 57-48. Pankalla had 18 and Kramer 17.
