Injured Boy Dies

Alfred Jones, a Philomath
Boy, the Victim

Alfred Jones, fourteen-year-old son of Lee Jones of Philomath, died rather suddenly Monday morning, the result of a gun shot wound received on Saturday, Dec. 26.

The injury to young Jones was a badly shattered right shoulder, but while this was considered serious neither attending physician anticipated a fatal ending. The wound had been dressed regularly, seemed to be getting along satisfactorily, and the evidence was that there would not be the slightest hitch before the boy was well. Dr. Pernot and Johnson, of this city, saw the boy last Thursday and at that time turned the patient over to Dr. Logan, of Philomath, whom they had been assisting. While in this city Saturday, Dr. Logan reported the boy as doing splendidly, and thus the lad continued practically up to the time of his death Monday morning. Drs. Pernot & Johnson have no theory as to the direct cause of the boy’s death unless it be blood-clot or acute blood poisoning.

It will be remembered that young Jones was shot while walking behind his father. Mr. Jones carried his gun across his shoulder and in some unexpected way the gun was discharged, injuring the boy as stated.
