In Monday’s installment of Warrior Nation, I wrote about the boys basketball team and attention received by the MidMajorMedia.com website. Well, anyone who knows anything about Warrior basketball should know that the girls deserve a little attention of their own.

It makes sense that the website would pick Philomath to win the Oregon West this season (if we have one).

“Only a global pandemic kept the Philomath Warriors from winning the state title last season,” the website wrote in a preview of “South Valley” conferences and teams. “Player of the Year Sage Kramer and Coach of the Year Ben Silva were 23-0 against 4A opponents last season and will return to pick up where they left off this season.”

The write-up mentions the loss of Emma Pankalla to graduation and how that will impact the team, but overall, the program returns eight of 12 varsity players, including all-state honorable mention guard Mia Rust.

“… They are our favorites to win it all this season,” the article states.

I hope they get a chance to prove it on the court and PHS doesn’t lose another opportunity at a state title.
