The Philomath High School boys basketball team finished strong at the South Coast Les Schwab Tournament in Coos Bay on Saturday afternoon with a 69-53 victory over Class 5A Crook County.
The Warriors (4-3) shook off early defensive issues in the first quarter to take a 36-29 lead by halftime and then built a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Juniors Cole Beardsley and Ty May both put in consistent performances for Philomath with each scoring at least two baskets in each quarter and finishing with 20 points for the game. Junior Chad Russell also hit double figures with 10 points.
Beardsley was on fire from beyond the three-point arc. He had four in the game, three of those in the first half. May also hit a couple of 3-pointers.
The Warriors were whistled just five times for fouls in the game.
Sophomore guard Tyson Martinez scored 15 on five 3-pointers and sophomore guard Logan Matthews had 11 for Crook County (2-5). The Cowboys had a dozen 3-pointers in the game.
Philomath will hit the road again on Tuesday with a trip to Hidden Valley. The Warriors have played all but one of their seven games away from the PHS gym to start the season.
