The Philomath City Council plans take a look at the establishment of a volunteer program during its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Philomath City Hall.

According to notes provided to councilors for the meeting, risk managers with the city’s insurance providers helped with the creation of a program that allows community members to volunteer at a lower risk to the city.

The process includes the creation and adoption of policies, which are included in a volunteer handbook, and how to handle insurance coverage. If the council approves policies, city staff would then move the program forward with tasks such as risk management assessment, program processes, a training program, forms to track volunteers, position descriptions and application procedures.

Also on the agenda are appointments to fill out the Planning Commission and Budget Committee, a vote on updated council rules, a decision on whether to continue support of the “If I Were Mayor” contest, a proclamation declaring February as Black History Month and a presentation by the Philomath Lions Club’s Tom Wright.

City Manager Chris Workman is also scheduled to give a management report, which features a rundown of news from the city’s various departments.

Prior to the regular meeting, councilors are scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. for a work session to discuss updates to the city’s strategic plan

The regular meeting can be viewed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
