The Philomath High School volleyball team struggled against perennial power Sweet Home on the road Thursday night in a 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 loss. The Huskies, ranked No. 3 in the OSAAtoday preseason coaches poll, remains unbeaten so far this season with a 3-0 record.

“We have a lot to work on,” PHS coach Denee Newton said. “They want to get better and this is match three. We’ve got a lot of growth ahead of us.”

Philomath will play next on Tuesday at Woodburn with the match scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

On the stat sheet vs. the Huskies, senior Sage Kramer had a team-high 14 kills with senior Reagan Larson good on 11 set assists. Senior Taylor Roe had 13 digs and Kramer added 11. Senior Ashlynn Barron and Larson each had three ace serves.

Philomath (1-2 overall) was coming off the high of a come-from-behind five-set victory over Cascade on Tuesday night. The Warriors go to 1-1 in the Oregon West Conference and 1-2 overall.
