Strengthening Rural Families, a Philomath-based nonprofit that serves children and families in rural Benton and Linn counties, invites the community to its annual fundraiser on Friday at Lumos Wine Co.

The board and staff will host an evening of wine, music and community spirit from 5-8 p.m. July 26 at Lumos Wine’s Wren Hill Vineyard located at 24000 Cardwell Hill Drive just west of Philomath. Admission is free.

“This summer gathering is an opportunity for us to connect with our supporters and partners in

a beautiful and easygoing location,” Strengthening Rural Families’ executive director, Paul Smith, said through a press release.

Lumos will donate a portion of all wine sales during the event to the organization.

Attendees can enjoy live music by Mule on Fire, a silent auction and the opportunity to bring a picnic, relax and enjoy wine while raising money for an important cause.

Strengthening Rural Families works for the well-being of individuals and families in rural communities throughout Benton and Linn counties through education, advocacy, coalition building and community connections. Programs extend to Alsea, Monroe, Philomath, Santiam Canyon and surrounding regions.

The nonprofit works with local organizations to provide programs and resources that support rural parenting and health initiatives. Programs and services include preschool programs, parenting education workshops, positive youth development classes, oral health such as mobile dental clinics, financial coaching and more.

“One of the key Strengthening Rural Families programs in Philomath is the Next Steps pre-kindergarten program, offering young children in Philomath an opportunity to engage in readiness training and activities that ease their transition into K-12 schooling,” the organization said in its press release. “Next Steps is currently offered at no cost to families. This vital community program is crucial for ensuring children in local rural communities have a strong educational foundation.”

The organization said participation in the Summer Gathering at Lumos will support its efforts to continue programs like Next Steps in local rural communities.
