Build A Better Skate Park will host fundraiser sales at Philomath City Park over the next two Saturdays with proceeds to go toward its efforts to replace the city’s 24-year-old skate park.
Called a Jumble Sale, they will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 at Shelter No. 2 in Philomath City Park. Organizers said most everything will be sold for $1 but there will also be a boutique table with items priced at $2 and higher.
Commonly referred to as BABS, the group was officially organized in 2021 to raise awareness and attract support for a redesign of Philomath Skate Park. The organization grew out of a local family’s sharing of concerns at a Park Advisory Board meeting in February 2019. Izzie Elliott was on the park board at the time and has become a leading voice in efforts for a skate park rebuild.
Last year, the city held a public meeting on a new design after a feasibility study had been completed.
Next steps revolve around a finalized design and funding of the project, which could involve an Oregon Parks and Recreation grant. That scenario would include a required match with fundraising becoming a necessary component. According to a timeline published on the city’s website, the project is estimated to become a reality in 2026-27.
