Campfires are once again allowed outside of developed campgrounds on the Siuslaw National Forest after the U.S. Forest Service rescinded public use restrictions Sept. 18.
The agency cited recent rainfall and cooler temperatures for the reduced wildfire risk. In addition to campfires, restrictions on grills, chainsaws, off-highway vehicles and smoking have also been lifted.
Forest officials still urged caution, asking visitors to keep campfires small and away from vegetation, and to make sure a fire is cold to the touch before leaving it unattended.
The Siuslaw National Forest is currently rated at “low” fire danger.
