Eighteen students received Pioneer Connect scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year, the company recently announced.

Philomath students receiving academic scholarships included Florence Anderson (who plans to attend Concordia University), Kailey Fredrickson (Oregon State University), Caleb Matthews (Stanford University), Amey McDaniel (George Fox University), Casey McDaniel (Oregon State University), Sarah McDaniel (George Fox University), Mikaila Saathoff (Linfield University), Biwa Tomono-Duval (Central Oregon Community College) and Konoha Tomono-Duval (Colorado College).

In addition, Josiah Gunn received a community college scholarship. He plans to attend Linn-Benton Community College. Jeremy Schaffer, who is home schooled here in the Philomath area, also won a community college scholarship with plans to attend LBCC.

Others earning academic scholarships are Lauren Bobo-Sisler, Danika Simon, Rachael Turner and Benjamin Wiese of Newport High; Lucas Forshee of Waldport High; and Rhyan Turner of Eddyville Charter School. A community college scholarship also went to Randi Turner of Eddyville Charter.

“On behalf of the board and everyone at Pioneer Connect, we would like to congratulate these outstanding students on earning a scholarship to assist in their pursuit of a college education,” said Jim Rennard, Pioneer Connect general manager. “These high-achieving students have overcome tremendous hurdles with COVID-19 and distance learning, so we know they will certainly be successful in pursuit of their higher education. They are excellent role models for our communities, and we wish all of them continued success in the classroom and beyond.”

Each year, Pioneer Connect opens its scholarship application to young adults beginning or continuing their college years. Interested students choose with the academic scholarship or the community college scholarship, based on their higher education goals and plans.

Pioneer Connect’s board of directors reviews and awards the scholarships.

The application period for the 2021-22 academic year scholarships will open in January. Those interested in applying at that time can visit for information.
