The Philomath Youth Activities Club is looking for about 40 student volunteers to staff its annual Community Kids Carnival on Friday, May 29. As of Monday morning, only one has signed up.

The carnival runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Philomath High School. Organizers plan to hold it on Clemens Field with the gymnasiums as a backup in case of inclement weather.

Students in eighth grade through high school are eligible to volunteer. PYAC’s Sarah Woosley said their duties will include helping younger children play carnival games and supervising the inflatables to make sure kids follow the rules and stay safe.

Volunteers are asked to arrive at 4:30 p.m. and plan to stay until about 9:30 p.m. to help load supplies, tables and chairs at the end of the night.

Each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt and a hamburger or hot dog meal.

“Volunteers are critical to make this event happen,” Woosley said. “PYAC only has three full-time staff and a handful of part-time staff. We rely on this fundraiser to help keep our programs as accessible to all as possible.”

Students can sign up on clipboards in the PHS and PMS offices, or contact Woosley at sarah@pyac.net or 541-929-4040. Organizers are asking sign-ups to come in by May 26.
