The Philomath Public Art Ad Hoc Committee will meet for the first time at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7. The committee was formed to discuss public art to be integrated into the Downtown Safety and Streetscapes Project.

The committee plans to solicit public art ideas and make final recommendations to the City Council for art to be placed within the streetscape design. The committee will also work with artists to develop large, round, metal sidewalk inserts that reflect the area’s history, culture or significance.

In addition, the committee will solicit ideas and materials for an informational kiosk and make a recommendation to the City Council. The committee may also solicit and consider pieces of public art for the concrete plinths located throughout the streetscape design.

For more information, see the city’s Downtown Safety and Streetscapes Project webpage.

The public can watch the meeting on the city’s Facebook page.
