• Child returned, 2:46 p.m., North 16th Street and Main Street, child found in the street returned to father.

•Hit and run, 5:48 p.m., 100 block of South 14th Street, unknown vehicle backed into the caller’s vehicle and left.

• Driving while suspended, 8:25 p.m., 500 block of Main Street, police arrested a 36-year-old Newport man on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended; cited and released in lieu of custody.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 25

• Crash, 10:11 a.m., Highway 20 near milepost 49, after a disabled semi truck had blocked the westbound lane, an approaching vehicle slowed to a stop and was rear-ended by another vehicle that could not stop in time; no injuries reported and both vehicles could be driven from the scene.

• Warrant, 2:30 p.m., Highway 20 near milepost 47, deputies arrested a 38-year-old Toledo woman on a warrant for failure to appear in court and driving while suspended after pulling her over for operating a vehicle with studded tires; the woman was cited and released.

MONDAY, SEPT. 27

• Abandoned vehicle, 1:52 p.m., 24000 block of Highway 20, deputies took a report from a resident that discovered a vehicle stuck in a ditch and blocking her driveway; deputies connected the situation to a report of a woman who had gotten stuck the previous night but was not able to find her car; the vehicle’s owner was contacted and advised of the location.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 30

• Crash, 4:05 p.m., Highway 20 near milepost 44, motorist reported her vehicle was side-swiped by vehicle traveling in opposite direction with no injuries reported and both vehicles able to leave the scene; the drivers exchanged information but the second motorist gave the first motorist an AARP card for car insurance; the first driver then attempted to contact the second driver but was unsuccessful; damage estimated at $2,500.
