FRIDAY, OCT. 20

• 10:39 a.m. — Police responded to a report of assault in the 2000 block of Chapel Drive. No other information was provided.

• 1:34 p.m. — Police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Main Street. No injuries were reported.

• 10:13 p.m. — Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of North 12th Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a found dog at 3:58 p.m. (North 12th Street and Houser Lane) and a mental health situation at 5:15 p.m. PPD reported four traffic stops.

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a bike traffic warning at 1:56 a.m. (College Street and North 17th Street), suspicious circumstances at 2:27 a.m. (North 12th Street), suspicious vehicle at 1:53 p.m. (South 17th Street), noise disturbance at 10:33 p.m. (Newton Street), suspicious vehicle at 10:59 p.m. (Main Street) and suspicious circumstance at 11:38 p.m. (Applegate Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 10:07 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported 10 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, OCT. 22

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 12:48 a.m. (Chapel Drive), property found at 1:56 p.m. (South 19th Street) and a verbal argument at 6:18 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported 12 traffic stops.

MONDAY, OCT. 23

• 11:38 a.m. — Police took a report of fraud from an individual in the 2600 block of Applegate Street. The person reported that a credit card was missing and fraudulent transactions had started appearing.

• 5:37 p.m. — Police responded to a report of an adult male intoxicated and passed out in a parking lot at College Street and North 19th Street. The man, who was unresponsive but breathing, was examined by medics and transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Other calls: Police responses included a non-911 issue at 1:46 a.m. (14th Street and Main Street), a dog complaint at 1:43 p.m. (Newton Street), welfare check at 3:09 p.m. (Applegate Street), abandoned vehicle at 5:15 p.m. (Richard Place) and a domestic disturbance at 9:36 p.m. (14th Street and College Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.

TUESDAY, OCT. 24

Other calls: Police responses included a report of a man with an open container of alcohol at 2:57 p.m. (Applegate Street). In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 5:31 p.m. (Highway 20 and Woods Creek Road). PPD reported one traffic stop.

Other calls: Police responses included a suspicious vehicle at 5:19 a.m. (Applegate Street), juvenile complaint at 2:22 p.m., trespassing at 4:52 p.m. (Main Street), suspicious circumstance at 5:35 p.m. (North 12th Street), phone harassment at 7:27 p.m. (North 19th Street) and a welfare check at 7:51 p.m. (South 18th Street). THURSDAY, OCT. 26

Other calls: Police responses included a report of threats at 2:35 p.m. (North 19th Street), animal complaint at 3:39 p.m (North Eighth Street), harassment at 5:35 p.m. (Main Street) and a noise disturbance at 7:30 p.m. (South 16th Street). SUNDAY, OCT. 8

• 10:13 p.m. — Police arrested a 54-year-old Philomath woman on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (0.15% blood alcohol content) following a traffic stop at Pioneer Street and North 10th Street. The woman was issued a citation in lieu of custody. The driver was also cited for refusing a breath test and failing to signal for a turn.

MONDAY, OCT. 9

• 11:21 a.m. — Police transported a 21-year-old Newport man from the 900 block of Applegate Street to Benton County Jail on contempt of court charges.

• 11:43 a.m. — Police responded to a mental health situation at Philomath High School.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 11

• 3:17 p.m. — Police responded to a report of first-degree theft in the 700 block of Grouse Place involving a resident who lost $2,000 worth of silver bars that had been mailed from a private seller to the buyer’s mailbox. When the buyer was notified that the package had been delivered, only an empty box that had been ripped open was found. The resident was given a police case number so a report could be filed with the U.S. Postal Service.

• 6:51 p.m. — Police responded to reports of a 5-year-old child sitting on an apartment’s second-story window sill. The child’s mother was contacted.

FRIDAY, OCT. 13

• 2:48 p.m. — Police took a report of the theft of a bicycle from Philomath City Park.

SUNDAY, OCT. 15

• 7:38 p.m. — Police arrested a 28-year-old Albany man on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and on a contempt of court warrant out of Lebanon. The man was cited in lieu of custody.

MONDAY, OCT. 16

• 10:19 a.m. — Police took a report of a resident who lost an U.S.-issued passport and needed to file a report to complete an application for a replacement.

• 7:56 p.m. — Police arrested a 62-year-old Corvallis man on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (0.13% blood alcohol content) following a traffic stop on Southwest 71st Street in Corvallis. The man was cited in lieu of custody and given a courtesy ride to his residence.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 18

• 7:57 a.m. — Police responded to a crash involving a vehicle that made a left turn out of a gas station onto North 19th Street and caused a collision with a vehicle that was headed south. The driver’s view coming out of the gas station was reportedly obstructed by a semitrailer. Both vehicles had front-end damage. No injuries were reported.

• 11:17 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a stolen license plate off a vehicle in the 2800 block of Newton Street. A security camera triggered at 1:55 a.m. showed someone walking around the car but there were no identifying marks on the suspect.

TUESDAY, OCT. 17

• 8:37 a.m. — Deputies took a report of a hit-and-run incident involving mailboxes that had been run over on Main Street.

MONDAY, OCT. 23

• 11:58 p.m. — Police arrested a 23-year-old Albany man on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended and on two warrants following a traffic stop on Highway 20 near Priest Road.

THURSDAY, OCT. 26

• 9:44 a.m. — Police arrested a 37-year-old Philomath man in the 1400 block of Applegate Street on a misdemeanor charge of failure to register as a sex offender.

SUNDAY, OCT. 29

• 11:11 p.m. — Police arrested a 34-year-old Albany woman on warrants out of Lebanon Municipal Court and Linn County Justice Court after she was contacted on 13th Street and Chapel Drive riding a bicycle. Citations were issued in lieu of custody.

FATAL CRASHES

THURSDAY, OCT. 19

• 9:40 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 about 10 miles north of Baker that took the life of Philip Wayne Markle, 19, of Nampa, Idaho. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by 43-year-old Caldwell, Idaho, was in the slow lane when it struck the rear of a semi operated by a 44-year-old Fruitland, Idaho, man. The driver of the car and a passenger, a 16-year-old girl, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Markle, also a passenger in the car and son of the driver, was declared deceased at the scene. Troopers reported that the passengers were not wearing seatbelts. The operator of the semi was not injured.

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

• 3:27 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 about 3 miles north of Tillamook that took the life of a 17-year-old girl. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Dodge Ram driven by the juvenile was headed south and veered into the northbound lane and struck head-on a Toyota Tundra driven by a 38-year-old Garibaldi man. The girl was declared deceased at the scene. Troopers reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

• 12:02 p.m. — Troopers responded to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Interstate 5 about 1 mile south of Woodburn that took the life of Elvin Miranda Martinez, 28, of Junction City. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a southbound Toyota Corolla, driven by Martinez, had been the subject of several driving complaints and had crashed into the center median on I-5 near Tigard. As OSP responded, the vehicle left the scene of the original crash and continued south at high speeds — again striking the median before the car eventually became disabled. A concerned motorist stopped to check on the driver and during the interaction, the suspect attempted to take the motorist’s keys. As Woodburn Police officers arrived on the scene, Martinez fled on foot across the northbound lanes and was struck by a Honda CR-V. Martinez was transported to a local hospital and later declared deceased. The driver of the Honda was not injured.

THURSDAY, OCT. 26

• 7:52 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 211 about 8 miles west of Molalla that took the life of Bradley J. Burchard, 43, of Sherwood. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Burchard was driving east in a Ford Focus when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision. He was declared deceased at the scene.
