FRIDAY, JAN. 12
• 10:49 a.m. — Police responded to a crash at North 14th Street and Main Street. There were reportedly no injuries.
• 11:53 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 1800 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.
Other calls: Police responses included a parking complaint at 11:01 a.m. (Main Street), shots heard at 1:23 p.m. (Vincent Street) and a dog at large at 4:28 p.m. (South 19th Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.
SATURDAY, JAN. 13
• 3:58 p.m. — Police responded to a Monroe Street address for a death investigation. It was determined that an adult male died of apparent natural causes.
Other calls: Police responses included a suspicious circumstance at 2:41 p.m. (South Ninth Street) and a noise disturbance at 2:55 p.m. (Maple Street). PPD reported no traffic stops.
SUNDAY, JAN. 14
• 8:59 a.m. — Police assisted at the scene of a fire at the BeVille Manor Apartments on Applegate Street. See separate story.
• 3:06 p.m. — Police arrested a 53-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault at a location on Main Street.

MONDAY, JAN. 15
• 12:08 a.m. — Police responded to an animal complaint in the 700 block of North 12th Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.
• 4:24 p.m. — Police responded to a report of shoplifting in the 1700 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.
Other calls: Police responses included reckless driving at 3:32 p.m. (College Street and North 16th Street). In addition, police assisted the Corvallis Police Department on a call at 4:11 a.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard and Southwest Technology Loop). PPD reported no traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17
• 9:17 a.m. — Police arrested Trout Jason Maglecic, 29, of Corvallis, on a felony charge of third-degree robbery of a convenience store following an incident at Chevron on Main Street.
• 11:25 a.m. — Police responded to a disturbance in the 1400 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.
Other calls: Police responses included a noise disturbance at 4:44 a.m. (Highway 34) and motorist assist at 2:01 p.m. (Main Street and North 19th Street). PPD reported no traffic stops.
THURSDAY, JAN. 18

Other calls: Police responses included an abandoned vehicle at 12:02 p.m. (Summerton Way). In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 12:10 a.m. (Highway 20) and assisted another agency on a call at 7:39 p.m. (North Seventh Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.

SATURDAY, DEC. 30
• 1:54 p.m. — Deputies arrested Alexis Michelle Fisher, 24, of Philomath, who faces felony charges of first-degree child neglect, unlawful delivery of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and tampering with physical evidence.
TUESDAY, JAN. 9
• 3:24 p.m. — A deputy assisted at the scene of a crash near West Hills Road that involved a Hyundai Elantra and a Ford F35 pickup. There were reportedly no injuries and the vehicles were towed.
THURSDAY, JAN. 11
• Deputies took a report from a 66-year-old Philomath man involving $500 in cash that was stolen while he was working as a referee for two varsity basketball games at Monroe High School.
MONDAY, JAN. 15
• 2:04 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report of 20 to 25 sheep in a Bellfountain Road resident’s yard south of Llewellyn Road. Arrangements were made for the owner to coordinate removing the sheep.
TUESDAY, JAN. 16
• 8:55 a.m. — Deputies took a report of first-degree theft from a pickup that was broken into while it was stuck in a ditch off Kings Valley Highway about 1-1/3 mile south of Beazell Memorial Forest. A Stihl chainsaw, Vortex binoculars and other hunting equipment (no firearms) were reportedly stolen.
THURSDAY, JAN. 18
• 6:46 a.m. — Deputies arrested a 27-year-old Corvallis man on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended during a traffic stop on 12th Street and Main Street. The man was issued a criminal citation with a court date.
• Deputies filed a report from a Philomath resident who said a camera and dash camera were stolen from his pickup while it was parked in the lower parking lot on Marys Peak Road. No damage to the vehicle was reported.

FATAL CRASHES
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17
• 9:45 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Klamath County about 8 miles south of Crescent that took the life of the driver of a minivan, Juan Ochoa Bravo, 39, of Bend, and the lives of four passengers, Eve Saldana Alcantar, 37, Erik Ochoa Saldana, 18, a 15-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Chrysler Pacifica driven by Bravo was headed north on the highway when it lost control and slid into the southbound lane and hit a semi-truck driven by a 56-year-old Los Angeles man. The truck driver attempted to avoid the Chrysler by swerving off the shoulder of the highway but the collision occurred, sending the minivan spinning across the northbound lane. Bravo, Alcantar Saldana, the teenage girl and the baby were declared deceased at the scene. An 11-year-old girl in the minivan was transported to a medical center with critical injuries. The truck driver was reportedly not injured. Roadway conditions and several passengers not wearing proper safety restraints were determined to be primary factors in the crash.
• 6:28 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Klamath County about 6 miles north of Chemult that took the life of Michael Randolph Lasley, 78, of Clearlake, California. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a GMC pickup driven by Lasley crossed into the oncoming lane and struck head-on a semi-truck operated by a 29-year-old Grants Pass man. Lasley was declared deceased at the scene. The truck’s driver was reportedly not injured. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
FRIDAY, JAN. 19
• 12:49 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 about 6 miles north of Woodburn that took the life of Douglas Shane Johnston, 43, of Aurora. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Johnston was driving south in a Ford F-150 when he left the travel lane and struck the fear of a parked semi-truck on the shoulder. Johnston was declared deceased at the scene. The occupants of the semi were not injured.
• 12:21 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 31 about 2 miles south of La Pine that took the life of Joanne Lee Banzer, 77, of La Pine. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a southbound Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by an 87-year-old Fort Rock man attempted to turn left from Highway 97 to Highway 31 and was struck by a northbound Dodge Dart driven by a 22-year-old La Pine woman. Banzer, a passenger in the Dodge, was declared deceased at the scene. Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for evaluation.
