SATURDAY, AUG. 5

• 12:34 a.m. — Police arrested a 49-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (unclassified) following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Applegate Street. The driver refused field sobriety tests and invoked his right to remain silent. Blood and urine samples were obtained pursuant to a search warrant. The man was cited in lieu of custody. He was also cited for an unlawful left turn.

TUESDAY, AUG. 8

• 12:34 a.m. — Police took a report of second-degree forgery involving a local business that had been informed by a bank that an unknown person had attempted to open several checking accounts in the business’s name. The bank requested the business to file a report with law enforcement.

THURSDAY, AUG. 10

• 12:56 a.m. — Police took a report and referred to the Oregon Department of Human Services a situation involving a woman who gave birth to a baby at 34 weeks on Aug. 9 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. The woman admitted using methamphetamine the day prior to the birth.

• 12:59 a.m. — Police arrested a 34-year-old Albany man in the 100 block of South 14th Street on misdemeanor charges of tampering with evidence, reckless driving and littering. Police pulled over the man, who was driving a moped without a helmet, driving while suspended, driving uninsured and making an unsignaled turn. He was transported to Benton County Jail where he was processed and released. He was also cited for a warrant out of Albany.

• 12:45 p.m. — Police arrested a 67-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of harassment with physical contact (simple assault) following an incident at an address on North 16th Lane.

• 10:53 p.m. — Police arrested a 53-year-old Albany woman on a warrant out of Albany for contempt of court. The woman was cited in lieu of custody.

CALLS FROM AUG. 11-17

FRIDAY, AUG. 11

• 9:03 a.m. — Police took a report from a woman who came into the police station and said her vehicle was hit by another vehicle at Dollar General on Aug. 7. A report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 10:59 a.m. — Police arrested a 43-year-old man (city of residence not reported) on a misdemeanor charge of menacing following an incident at Philomath Self Storage on Landmark Drive.

• 2:40 p.m. — Police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Main Street. No injuries were reported.

• 4:19 p.m. — Police took a report from a man who reported sex offenses when he was younger.

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 12:24 a.m. (Main Street), suspicious person at 6:45 a.m. (South 23rd Street and Applegate Street), non-911/criminal issue at 9:41 a.m. and 9:42 a.m. (South 23rd Street), traffic complaint at 10:13 a.m. (South 23rd Street and Applegate Street) and a welfare check at 10:40 a.m. (Pioneer Street). PPD reported 14 traffic stops.

SATURDAY, AUG. 12

• 2:26 a.m. — Police responded to a driving under the influence of intoxicants situation in the 1400 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number. 

• 11:32 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a 4-year-old child alone at Subway on South 19th Street. The dad was located and the child was returned.

• 2:40 p.m. — Police responded to a city ordinance violation on Pioneer Street involving a man who parked his boat in the alley, which is a public right-of-way. The boat owner said he would move it.

Other calls: Police responses included a noise disturbance at 12:30 a.m. (Maple Street), suspicious circumstance at 12:58 a.m. (Pioneer Street), welfare check at 4:38 a.m. (Pioneer Street) and found property at 9:29 p.m. (Applegate Street). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 4:20 p.m. (Industrial Way and North 19th Street) and 6:53 p.m. (Southwest Reservoir Road and West Hills Road). PPD reported 16 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, AUG. 13

• 8:22 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an argument at a residence on North 16th Lane. It was determined to be a verbal argument between roommates with no crime committed. Police advised the pair to stay away from each other.

• 9:46 a.m. — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 19th Street and College Street. One passenger in a vehicle was transported via ambulance to a local hospital.

• 1:31 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an address on South 17th Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a car prowler at 1:57 a.m. (North 11th Street), welfare check at 5:22 a.m. (North 15th Street), abandoned vehicle at 4:38 p.m. (South 16th Street and Timothy Street), city ordinance violation for tall grass at 4:55 p.m. (North 12th Street), suspicious circumstance at 7:41 p.m. (North 14th Street), argument at 8:02 p.m. (North 19th Street), found dog at 9:01 p.m. (North Seventh Street) and citizen contact at 10:26 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported 15 traffic stops.

MONDAY, AUG. 14

• 12:37 a.m. — Police responded to a driving under the influence of intoxicants situation in the 900 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number. 

• 10:46 a.m. — Police responded to a residence on South 16th Street for a report of a wallet stolen out of a vehicle. A debit card in the wallet was used at various businesses.

• 1:16 p.m. — Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a business in the 1700 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 4:14 p.m. — Police reported warrant service in the 1000 block of Applegate Street. No details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 4:33 p.m. — Police responded to a report of theft in the 300 block of Mount Union Avenue. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number. 

• 6:20 p.m. — Police responded to a driving under the influence of intoxicants situation following a traffic stop on Highway 20 near milepost 46. A woman was arrested for DUII with a blood alcohol content of .30. No other details were made available.

Other calls: Police responses included a bike traffic warning at 12:29 a.m. (South 13th Street). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 3:17 a.m. (Main Street) and 11:44 p.m. (Applegate Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

TUESDAY, AUG. 15

• 1:51 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a sex offense at an address on Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included an animal complaint at 5:27 p.m. (South 17th Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16

MONDAY, JULY 31

• 12:45 p.m. — Deputies responded to the intersection of North Ninth Street and Heritage Hills Drive for a motorcycle crash. The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old Creswell man who crashed while negotiating a turn, was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with minor injuries.

SUNDAY, AUG. 6

• 8:53 p.m. — Deputies responded to Highway 20 near Lone Star Road for a two-vehicle crash. An investigation revealed that a vehicle was forced to brake abruptly while coming upon a deer in the highway and was hit from behind by a second vehicle. No injuries were reported and the motorists were able to drive their vehicles from the scene. 

MONDAY, AUG. 7

• 3:02 p.m. — Deputies responded to Highway 20 near the Summit Highway turnoff in Blodgett for a two-vehicle crash. A 72-year-old Blodgett driver was cited for following too closely after crashing into the rear of the other vehicle.

TUESDAY, AUG. 8

• 11:49 a.m. — Deputies arrested a 37-year-old Lebanon woman on a warrant out of Linn County Circuit Court for failure to appear after pulling her over in the 600 block of Main Street. The woman was criminally cited and released.

THURSDAY, AUG. 10

• 10:26 p.m. — Deputies arrested a 41-year-old Gates man on a warrant out of Marion County Circuit Court after pulling him over on Main Street near 19th Street for no trailer lights and an unsecured load. The man was transported to Benton County Jail.

OREGON FATAL CRASHES

SATURDAY, AUG. 12

• 7:05 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a report of a vehicle-bicycle crash in Marion County. Harley Auten, 42, of Jefferson, was riding in a bike line traveling south on Highway 164 and going through the intersection with Talbot Road SE. OSP reported that a Dodge Ram 3500, operated by Brian Hammons, 55, of Jefferson, turned from Talbot Road SE onto Highway 164 and collided with the bicyclist. Auten was transported to Salem Hospital and later pronounced deceased. Hammons left the scene after medical personnel arrived but prior to law enforcement arrival, OSP said. He turned himself in to investigators the next day and was lodged at Marion County Jail on charges of hit and run and criminally negligent homicide.

TUESDAY, AUG. 15

• 12:38 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Washington County. Federick H. Kortlever, 90, of Astoria, and Erez Y. Mayer, 50, of Portland, were killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Ford F-250 driven by Kortlever was eastbound when it left its lane and crashed head-on to a GMC Savannah driven by Mayer. In a addition, a Honda Civic, driven by a 23-year-old Troutdale man, struck the rear of the pickup. Kortlever and Mayer were declared deceased at the scene. Two passengers in the GMC, a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger in the Honda Civic were uninjured.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16

• 2 a.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Baker County. Martin C. Liccardo, 46, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Toyota HiAce with Liccardo driving was eastbound on I-84 when it began to swerve in both lanes of travel. The vehicle left the roadway onto a soft shoulder and rolled multiple times before coming to a rest of its roof. Liccardo was declared deceased at the scene.

• 5:10 a.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Union County. Robert E. Floyd, 60, of North Powder, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a westbound commercial truck and trailer driven by Ilker Ozgur, 30, of Woodside, New York, lost control, flipped onto the passenger side and came to rest with the trailer blocking the fast lane. A westbound Volkswagen Beetle, driven by Floyd, struck the crashed trailer and ejected the operator from the vehicle. A westbound commercial truck and trailer driven by a 61-year-old Goose Creek, South Carolina, man also struck the trailer and was forced into the median. Another commercial truck and trailer, driven by a 61-year-old North Powder man, struck debris in the roadway as it passed the crash site. Ozgur was checked for injuries at the scene and declined medical transport. Floyd was declared deceased at the scene. The South Carolina man was injured and transported to a local hospital. The other truck driver was not injured.

THURSDAY, AUG. 17

• 1:50 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 244 in Union County. James D. Thomas, 52, of Union, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a propane truck driven by Thomas was eastbound when it left the roadway, overcorrected and rolled onto its side. The vehicle caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames by the time first responders arrived. Firefighters extinguished the flames. Thomas was declared deceased at the scene.

• 9:27 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 22E in Marion County. Jimmy R. Graham, 64, of Detroit, was killed. OSP reported that a Dolphin motorhome driven by a 52-year-old Scio man was traveling eastbound on Highway 22E when it struck Graham, a pedestrian who for unknown reasons was in the roadway. Graham was declared deceased at the scene. The driver and other occupants of the motorhome were not injured.
