The story: A cold one in the beer garden at the rodeo grounds just might be the answer on how to spend a hot Saturday in Philomath. That’s what organizers of the Philomath Brew & Wine Fest were hoping with the second version of its fundraising event on Aug. 14.

“Based on other events I’ve been to so far this year, we’re looking to double our numbers from the first year,” organizer KC Pyle said. “We had roughly 300 the first year and I think I’m being conservative with this but we’re estimating 700.” (“Philomath Brew & Wine Fest set for Saturday at rodeo grounds,” published Aug. 10).

The latest: Pyle estimated attendance at the Aug. 14 event at the rodeo grounds came in between 400 and 500 — and that included nondrinkers and vendors. “Our attendance was not what we had hoped for,” Pyle said. “I believe it was due to the heat.”

Pyle submitted a particular amount to be donated to the Willamette Valley First Responder Chaplains, an organization chosen to be a recipient of a portion of the proceeds. The donated amount will first need to be approved by the Philomath Frolic & Rodeo’s board of directors.

“I think everyone had a great time and we can only hope to continue to grow and learn with each event,” Pyle said.
