The Philomath High School wrestling team swept a pair of duals Tuesday at Elmira with wins over the host school, 54-18, and Siuslaw, 45-15.
Gradin Fairbanks, Blaise Pindell, Connar Kohn and Joseph Choi saw regulation action in both duals and defeated their opponents. Fairbanks, who wrestles at 145 pounds, had the toughest path with a win over his Elmira opponent on a 13-11 decision that went into a “sudden victory” period. Against Siuslaw, Fairbanks outpointed his opponent with an 8-5 decision.
Pindell had a 5-0 decision and a pin in 3:47 at 170. Kohn had two pins — each in less than 1 minute — at 220. And Choi, who wrestles at 285, recorded a couple of pins as well.
Ben Hernandez (120), Blake Niemann (126) and Chase Ringwald (132) all had pins in their only matches of the day. Caleb Blackburn (138) split his two matches with the loss coming against Siuslaw on a tough 7-6 decision.
The Warriors head to Junction City on Wednesday for another double dual. Besides the host school, Stayton will also face PHS on the mat. On Thursday, the team will wrestle at Sweet Home with Cascade and Marshfield also competing.
