The Philomath High School swim teams swept duals on Tuesday over Kennedy and Junction City. The Warrior boys beat Kennedy, 74-12, and Junction City, 75-14. In the girls’ competition, Philomath was a 105-33 winner over Kennedy and a 117-10 winner over Junction City.
Individually, Kellen Houchin won two individual events and was involved in one of the most exciting races of the day. Houchin swam against only teammates in the 200-yard individual medley and won with a time of 2:43.94. In the 100 breaststroke, Houchin edged teammate Caleb Matthews by a half-second with a time of 1:19.28.
Other winners included Carrson Hirte in the 50 freestyle (25.82) and Caleb Matthews in the 100 freestyle (1:03.12).
All three of the boys’ relays were uncontested with only Philomath entries. McLennan, Houchin, Hirte and Caleb Matthews had a time of 1:58.91 in the 200 medley relay. Braedon Littrell, Marshall Morrison, Micah Matthews and McLennan completed the 200 freestyle relay in 2:02.28. In the 400 freestyle relay, Hirte, Houchin, Caleb Matthews and McLennan finished in 4:09.62.
Audrey Davis won two events in the girls’ competition with her performances in the 200 freestyle (2:25.68) and the 500 freestyle (6:27.85). Other individual winners for the Warriors included Kaeleigh Houchin in the 200 individual medley (3:18.41), Allison Neelands in the 100 freestyle (1:11.53) and Melia Morton in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.37). Katherine Holden was the lone entry in the 100 butterfly (1:37.41).

The 200 medley relay won in 2:24.91 with Ophelia Katsikis, Davis, Morton and Ruth Cropp. The 200 freestyle relay was first in 2:08.25 with Morton, Emma Holden, Davis and Neelands, beating Kennedy’s foursome by more than 10 seconds. The 400 freestyle relay swam unchallenged and came in with a time of 5:45.09 with Katsikis, Phoebe Coen, Madison Juhl and Houchin.
In results from late last week, Philomath went up against Lebanon on Friday in a virtual meet but merged results were not available, only times for the local athletes. For a rundown of PHS times in each event, see below.
