The Philomath High School girls soccer team opened Oregon West Conference play Tuesday with a 5-0 victory on the road over Cascade.
Senior Kamilla Grimmer recorded her latest hat trick with three goals in the second half and senior Bailey Bell had a hand in four of the team’s five goals as the Warriors improved to 4-1 overall on the season.
The Warriors stumbled a little in the first half but still held a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes. Bell scored in the 20th minute with an assist to junior Petra Hernandez and sophomore Jessica McLennan hit the net in the 26th minute with an assist to junior Isabel Morales-Marquez.
“It took a bit to settle into the bumpy field but we found a rhythm and played really well in the second half,” Philomath High coach Mat Phelps said. “We really controlled the middle of the field and had a lot of chances on goal.”
In the second half, Philomath struck early with Grimmer’s first goal in the 42nd with the assist to Bell. Goals in the 60th and 66th minutes were also from Grimmer with assists on both from Bell.
Philomath is scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home against Newport.
