Junior Alexis Pettit placed fourth at 100 pounds and Philomath as a team ended up 15th out of the 40 schools participating on Friday and Saturday at the Cottage Grove Invitational.

Pettit went 2-2 over the two-day tournament. She fell to Nola McNamara of Grants Pass by pin in 1:21 in the quarterfinals before advancing through the consolation bracket. Pettit pinned Jazzmine Sanchez of North Douglas in 1:27, then defeated Elice Hoadley of Grants Pass by pin in 2:24 in the consolation semifinals. Her tournament ended with a loss to Emmerson Jarman of Scappoose in the third-place match.

Freshman Rielly Ellingsen took sixth place at 115 pounds with a 3-2 record. After losing to Haedyn Hill of Elmira by pin in 1:25, Ellingsen won three consecutive consolation matches — pinning Jaylee Tripp of Cottage Grove in 0:40, Amina Palacios of Marshfield in 3:24, and Khloe Anderson of St. Helens in 1:31. She was pinned by Audrie Sanchez of Grants Pass in the consolation semifinals before a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

Freshman Makinzey Harrington finished 4-2 at 130 pounds. She opened by pinning Hazel Pacheco of Sheldon in 2:31 before falling to Zaira Duarte of Pleasant Hill by pin in 3:28. Harrington then won three straight consolation matches — pinning Aliyah Morris of Mazama in 0:28 and recording major decisions over Lexie Wright of Marshfield (13-2) and Allie Eubank of Sutherlin (8-0). Her tournament ended with an 18-6 major decision loss to Alexsis Woody of Cottage Grove.

Freshman Carsyn Pettit-Juvenal went 3-2 at 110 pounds. She won her first two matches by pinning Amia Hessong of Scappoose in 1:25 and Brielle Tanner of Grants Pass in 3:55 before losing to Paxton Steele of Harrisburg by pin in 1:51 in the quarterfinals. Pettit-Juvenal bounced back with a 4:38 pin of Peyton Johnson of McMinnville before falling to Aliyah Urenda of Cottage Grove.

Grants Pass won the tournament (203 points), followed by Oakridge (179.5) and Harrisburg (165.5).

Philomath will now turn its attention to the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 1 tournament at Molalla on Feb. 20-21.
