Philomath High senior Kyah Weeber swept her two individual races and swam the anchor leg on a winning relay in an appearance for the Warriors Friday in Eugene.
Competing in a tri-meet hosted by Marist Catholic at Echo Hollow Pool, Weeber won the closest race of the day when she beat Marist Catholic’s Fina Miret for first place in the 100-yard breaststroke by just six hundredths of a second. Weeber touched in 1:20.91 with Miret coming in at 1:20.97.
In the 100 butterfly, Weeber’s margin of victory was much more relaxing with a time of 1:14.31, which was nearly 5 seconds faster than the runner-up.
The 200 freestyle relay with sophomore Kate Burriel, senior Kateri Pindell, sophomore Emma Mecham and Weeber won in 2:02.64, a victory of 2.81 seconds over the runner-up.
The 200 medley relay had a second-place showing with Weeber, Pindell, Burriel and Mecham in 2:13.84.
Other top-three placewinners for the PHS girls included Burriel in the 200 individual medley (second, 2:52.11) and 500 freestyle (third, 7:16.29), senior Brooke McDaniel in the 200 IM (third, 3:23.90) and junior Ellie Dye in the 100 freestyle (third, 1:12.61).
Philomath’s boys also had first-place finishes in the individual events with junior Mason Stevens in the 100 backstroke, junior Cameron McLennan in the 100 butterfly and sophomore Wyatt Coen in the 500 freestyle.
Stevens swam a 1:09.25 to win the 100 backstroke by a comfortable margin over the runner-up’s time of 1:15.04. McLennan was unchallenged in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.97, much faster than the second-place finisher’s 1:20.23. And Coen won the 500 freestyle by nearly 6 seconds over the runner-up with a time of 6:41.90.
Other top-three individual placewinners for the boys were Stevens in the 200 IM (second, 2:33.81), McLennan in the 100 breaststroke (second, 1:17.67), senior Emmitt Gaskey in the 100 butterfly (third, 1:23.53) and senior Alex Dye in the 100 breaststroke (third, 1:17.73).
In the relays, the foursome of Stevens, senior Ethan Aynes, McLennan and Dye placed second in the 200 medley with a time of 2:03.78. Philomath also placed second in the 200 freestyle with Stevens, Gaskey, McLennan and Dye in 1:53.74.
Marist Catholic’s boys and Junction City’s girls were tops in the team standings. Philomath’s boys finished second and the girls were third.
Philomath is next scheduled to compete in the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 meet Feb. 14-15 in Albany.
